“In 2006, my drivers side mirror was leaking a black gel-like substance. After this started to happen, I noticed a circular oily residue-look in the middle of the mirror. It looks like oil was rubbed in the center of the mirror. Now all images in the mirror have a double-vision, blurry effect... And the mirror has lost the dimming effect for the headlights of the cars behind me.. A lot glare is present at nighttime. Dealers recommended replacement.. At my expense.”

NHTSA complaint #10371311, filed 2010-12, 65,000 miles

“In 2006, I noticed that my driver's side mirror was leaking the green goo that dims headlights reflecting in it at night. Once all of it was leaked out an oval, that had the appearance of an oil slick, came in the middle of the mirror. Now, the silver top layer of the mirror appears to be sliding off. It had a funhouse mirror appearance to it once the goo started leaking out of it, but now it is much, much worse. Everything is very blurry, you can't see how to back the vehicle at night, and it is extremely difficult during the day. …”

“The blower has gone twice (first time was jan 2003) since owning vehicle, it suddenly stops working especially at low temperatures (under 32f). Defogger system does not work. Dealership has fixed problem twice. Back blower works fine.”

NHTSA complaint #10052775, filed 2004-01, 20,000 miles

“Dt: hinge on the glass of the rear window separated during an extremely hot day of 100 degree plus temperature. The glass did not break but only separated into pieces. This happened on a 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe rear lift glass. If the back lift glass door was opened and the hinge fully separated the glass could fall off on a person or ultimately fall out of the hinge at highway speeds. The glass never fully separated;, only one hinge separated. No previous issues with this problem. …”

NHTSA complaint #10137829, filed 2005-09, 67,000 miles

“The contact owns a 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that the drivers side mirror was non-reflective and discolored and is obscuring his visibility while driving. The vehicle had not been inspected by a dealer; howver, the dealer informed him that there were no recalls for that component. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000. Updated 03/11/11”
