“On the morning of 10/20/2006, my husband was driving to work in our 1998 Chrysler Concorde. He was in rush hour traffic and the engine started knocking and losing power, the oil light also came on when he stopped. He was able to make it to work and park the car. Only to be told by a certified mechanic that we have engine failure and need a new engine. More than likely due to oil sludge ...whatever that is. We have had the oil changed in this car every 3,000 miles with synthetic oil since purchasing it from my parents in 2001. …”

NHTSA complaint #10171638, filed 2006-10, 72,095 miles

“Purchased car in march of 2001 and had car maintained according to suggested repair schedule. In july 2001 engine began making a knocking sound. Returned the car to the dealer later that month describing the problem. I was told by the dealer repair person that I needed to have the engine replaced. I asked the dealer what had caused the problem because I was maintaining the car. I was told that the car could have came out of 'time' and the engine may have slipped. Repairman could not give me a suggestion on how this could have happened. …”

NHTSA complaint #10064057, filed 2004-03, 65,000 miles

“Ignition switch problem with 1998 Chrysler Concorde. Switch dosen't seem to release after starting, consiquence is that air bags, power windows, power lockls and all related power equipment is non functional. I know of other Chrysler products that have the same problem, seems to be a problem in the ignition switch and/or related linkage.”

NHTSA complaint #10067744, filed 2004-04, 95,000 miles

“There was no instruction to check/inspect battery cables that were buried behind r/f wheel fender well and below engine. When inspected, they were so corroded, that both had to be replaced at significant labor expense which would have been negated by normal preventive maintenance instruction procedures.”

NHTSA complaint #10136290, filed 2005-09, 36,371 miles

“- the contact owns a 1998 Chrysler Concorde. The instrument panel failed. On 1-6-07 the contact was driving at 65 MPH when the gauges on the instrument panel turned off as if the car was off, the air conditioning turned on, and the interior lights started flashing. The contact pulled over to turn the ignition off and on, but the vehicle would start so it was towed to a shop where they told him that the body control module was working intermittently. …”
