“I own a 1999 Dodge Durango. I was on my way to work getting on to interstate 75, as I started to accelerate I heard a loud sound from the front right side of my vehicle, at the same time the vehicle was very hard to drive. I pulled over to see what the problem was, when I reached the front of the SUV my front right tire was barely dangling from the SUV. I had to call aaa to have it flat bedded to a garage. I was lucky that I was only going about 40 MPH and not reached the posted speed of 70 MPH.”

NHTSA complaint #10041652, filed 2003-10, 100,500 miles

“The consumer took the vehicle for an alignment, and the technician stated the lower and upper ball joints needed to be replaced. This would cost about 1,300. While traveling 65 MPH, the front left tire completely came apart. Consumer had to purchase 2 sets of tires due to the front suspension wearing the tires. Consumer would like to be reimbursed for the total of 4 tires purchased.”

NHTSA complaint #10029827, filed 2003-08, 60,000 miles

“Dt: in 2003 I had ball joints, upper and lower replaced, also tires were replaced. The arms were replaced prior to that. Dealer is now recommending the ball joints and tires be replaced again at cost $1200 for ball joints plus the cost of tires. The dealer had no idea why this would happen. I consumer called manufacturer, and they could not help. The only recall was for the years of 2000-2003, consumer's vehicle recall was 1999.”

NHTSA complaint #10125546, filed 2005-06

“I exited a highway on an off ramp. My speed had dropped to 50mph when I heard the rear tire begin to flop and saw it begin to smoke heavily. Upon examining the tire I found that the tread had seperated from the belts for approx. Half of the circumference of the tire. It was a clean seperation with no rubber left on the belts of the tire where the seperation had occured. We had been driving for approx. 40 minutes at 65mph before the incident occured.( DOT number: tire size: 31x10.5r15 )”

NHTSA complaint #729127, filed 2000-08

“The contact owns a 1999 Dodge Durango. While driving approximately 20 MPH, the vehicle veered to the left and the power assist pulled to the right. The contact heard a loud noise and smoke appeared under the hood. In addition, the vehicle was not running properly and the brakes overheated with a burning odor. The contact observed severe tire wear. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer and the vehicle was repaired. On over 20 separate occasions, the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for the same issues; however, the failures still persist. The VIN was unknown. …”
