“My Dodge caravan has a lifetime warranty due to a recall on the ABS brake system that was originally installed. Turns out the original owners brought the van in for this recall, but the part was not replaced. So years later it gave out. The van has 36k miles, so if it was replaced when the previous owners brought it in everything would be fine. (the previous owners were older and disabled, so I dont think they realized nothing was done) anyways, Dodge is refusing to fix the ABS system, and tell me they don't have a diagnosis tool, so they cant fix it. …”
NHTSA complaint #10776425, filed 2015-09, 36,800 miles“My ABS system fails intermittently, leaving me with no power brakes. It works fine 98% of the time, but fails without warning. It has done this numerous times. The dealer has advised me to bring it in 'when it is not working. My regular mechanic has pinpointed the problem, but the dealership will not accept his evaluation. It appears that the pump fails to turn on when signaled to do so, and tapping on the pump seems to get it to work.”
NHTSA complaint #10192126, filed 2007-05, 128,185 miles“Vehicle is being repaired for recalled failed brake pump. The vehicle has been inoperable for 6 months now, while this part is on backorder. I believe I have been patient in this matter concerning this item. The particular part is covered by a lifetime warranty and was replaced by the previous owner also. I think with this amount of time, Dodge should provide some kind of replacement vehicle until my vehicle is fixed. I have contacted Dodge via email concerning the matter.”
NHTSA complaint #10171413, filed 2006-10, 200,000 miles“I have a 1993 Dodge Grand Caravan with a failed ABS system. They said the hydralic cyl. Assembly and accumulator were bad. Campaign # 96v099000 .my Dodge dealer says the parts are no longer available , yet wants to replace the ABS pump and charge me $400+. It seems they do not intend to replace the in warranty (unavailable parts) with anything. This is not to may satisfaction! The ABS system failed two years ago, but apparently has not heldup to the 100,000 mile warranty. Miles are still under 100,000 miles.”
NHTSA complaint #10126557, filed 2005-06, 97,000 miles“Re: 1993 Dodge Grand Caravan. Yellow ABS and red brake warning lights came on accompanied by sudden loss of power brake assist. I managed to avoid several potential accidents by increasing following distance and braking early. I took the van to downs garage, my customary repair place. Gilbert downs, owner, diagnosed ABS pump failure, and contacted abernethy chrysler's service department for warranty work appointment. Abernethy refused to accept the vehicle, giving two differing accounts concerning the recall/warranty.”
