“V6 3.3 l engine I bought it 3 years ago with 77000 miles on it and shortly therefater the following problems have been noted: especially in cold weather, the transmission would not engage even after shifting to "d". It would work after getting warmed up. Frequent jerks with the transmission, after braking and resuming acceleration sharp clunking sound from the drivers side in the front when starting to move. (mounts?)”
NHTSA complaint #10069795, filed 2004-01, 77,000 miles“Transmission delays going into drive and it goes into (limp mode) many times it will not shift into third gear, it will only stay in second gear. If it does shift into third gear you may be driving along and it will all of the sudden shift down into second gear harshly.this is very dangerous, especially when it happened on the highway. This is the second Grand Caravan that I've had with the same identical problem and chrysler refuses to help.”
NHTSA complaint #10070395, filed 2004-01, 97,000 miles“My rear left axle keeps burning up bearings and the wheel either falls off or I catch it in time to correct it. At about $250.00 a pop (this is the fourth time) it's getting a little expensive. Not to mention the law of averages is turning against me. Sooner or later there is going to be an accident.”
NHTSA complaint #763968, filed 2002-07“Had problems with my 86 van, more with the 93 van and expecting more with my 98 van I must be nuts to have purchased the 98 van. The ABS brakes in 1993 van failed and I was able to stop before I ran the light, a few days later they came back on out of nowhere. I do not feel I should be driving a car that I can not trust the brakes.”
NHTSA complaint #737311, filed 2000-12“Transmission will not engage in any selection in cold weather. I began to encounter this problem the first winter I owned it, it was out of warranty. Last week the transmission failed. There was a loud banging noise. The trans. Will not engage. If the engine is running you cannot move the vehicle even in neuteral. If the engine is not runnning the vehicle can be moved. Mechanic says there is a transmission problem, however at this time the nature is unknown.”
