“My daughter's five year old friend grabbed the shoulder belt to fasten her seat belt when the belt came loose from the side of the van. She was sitting on the passenger side of the third bench seat. Fortunately, the van was parked at the time, but I shudder to think what would have happened had she been wearing the belt and we got into an accident.”
NHTSA complaint #10197901, filed 2007-07, 99,400 miles“My Dodge Grand Caravan 2001 was involved in a front end collision in october of 2015. I t-boned another car that pulled out in front of me. I was going 35-40 miles per hour. The seat belt failed to tighten around my hips. Because of this failure I sustained extensive damages to my right leg. This included a displaced fracture, numerous other fractures, a crushed injury to the tibia plateau. I had 5 months in rehab, 3 surgeries, extensive physical therapy. I am still receiving medical treatment a year later. If the seatbelt had done what it . …”
NHTSA complaint #10927566, filed 2016-11, 77,000 miles“When involved in an accident my sons seat belt unlatched causing him to be thrown foward, luckly he survived the accident with only bumbs, cuts and bruises. The repair shop told me the belt seamed fine, but I have been bothered by this ever since and did my own research to discover that this is a know problem and they no longer use this type of buckle. Crysler refused to change my buckles to the new kind and I fear if in another accident it could be fatal.”
NHTSA complaint #10067735, filed 2004-04, 29,000 miles“2001 Dodge Grand Caravan - various electrical malfunctions including: headlight failure/flashing, instrument cluster light failure/flashing, traction control failure/brake pulsing, radio failure, seat belt connector failure.”
NHTSA complaint #10168105, filed 2006-09, 40,000 miles“On at least 5 occasions, my the seatbelt holding my child's car seat in the second row captains chair has come undone. Luckily I check it before we go anywhere each time and have caught it. I'm not sure, but could this be a problem with the generation 3 seatbelts? If so, I do not feel my children are safe riding in these seatbelts and they should be fixed.”
