“My Dodge Intrepid was serviced at keystone Dodge or bud brown Dodge in overland park, ks for every oil change. At just under 70,000 miles the engine blew because of sludge. I was driving and I lost all power. I had the car towed to a Dodge dealer and they told me that this is a common issue. Dodge was not responsive to questions about the engine issue.”

NHTSA complaint #10346846, filed 2010-08, 69,000 miles

“I have a 99 Dodge Intrepid with 119k miles on it. I just had my inner tie rod bushing replaced, in the last week my car has died twice on the freeway traveling 60mph, and at a stop light where I could not stop because car was shut off completely. I had to step on parking brake to stop the car. This is very scary driving this death trap.”

NHTSA complaint #10293183, filed 2009-11, 119,000 miles

“I have changed the oil in the vehicle regularly every 3-4 thousand miles, then on sunday the timing belt tensioner went out and now the repair shop tells me I need a new engine and it's due to the tensioner failing from a sludge build up. I have since found this is very common to the 2.7l engine. Now the repair estimate is between five and six thousand dollars.”

NHTSA complaint #10246416, filed 2008-10, 111,900 miles

“Driving to have maintenance performed on my 1999 Dodge Intrepid. While driving down the highway, engine suddenly died. I had no braking or steering control once this happened. Had the vehicle towed and was told I would need another engine. I have researched the price and it ranges from 1700 (used) to 5499 (remanufactured and installed).”

NHTSA complaint #10178128, filed 2007-01, 106,000 miles

“We have a 99 Dodge Intrepid and at around 80,000 the engine gave out due to sludge buildup even though we had regular oil changes. We had to replace the engine at $5000.00. While researching the internet, we found that there are websites dedicated to the 99 Intrepid all with the same issue. Why are they not recalled?”
