“When parking or turning at stop lights periodically my steering wheel will lock up and become extremely hard to turn. I get stuck in the middle of an intersection or a parking lot not being able to turn my wheel. I have had the dealership look at it however they could not recreate the issue. The only warning I can feel is the steering starts to tighten up.”

NHTSA complaint #11658327, filed 2025-05

“On April 3rd, 2026 my steering started to intermittently lock up on my 2022 Ford Bronco. I immediately took my vehicle to my local dealership where they were able to recreate the problem. The vehicle was also throwing the code U3000:49-8A for steering gear failure. This issue appears to be consistent with the Ford Safety Recall 23S09. There was no warning prior to the issue. There were no warning indicators once the issue began.”

NHTSA complaint #11729984, filed 2026-04

“When turning the steering wheel right or left going in a slight decline or incline the wheel seems to lock up or requires a hard pull to move the wheel, its now to the point my wife can no longer drive the car. I have almost run off the road one time and just this morning almost hit my neighbors mail box I am taking the car to the dealer but they say there is no recall, There are certain models of the same year that are being recalled, I think the company, slow in adding models of my type. …”

NHTSA complaint #11660450, filed 2025-05

“I was operating the vehicle on the highway and the steering locked up. I had no indication that this was going to happen. It would not turn and almost caused an accident. I was able to break the steering do to my strength. I was able to limp truck to dealer. Upon inspection they confirmed a faulty / locked up steering shaft. This was not covered by ford. The shaft was replaced and functional now. I have made several attempts to communicate with corporate ford about this safety matter and haven’t been heard from. They have had shaft issues with their f150 trucks also. …”

NHTSA complaint #11734542, filed 2026-04

“The contact owns a 2022 Ford Bronco. While the contact’s daughter was driving at various speeds, the power steering malfunctioned, causing the steering wheel to become difficult to turn in either direction. The vehicle was taken to the local mechanic who was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer and local dealer were notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 40,000.”
