Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“I was driving down the highway and suddenly no power was going to the wheels when I stepped on the gas pedal. The car proceeded to slowdown and once pulled over to the side of the road it wouldn't send any power to the front or back wheel but would rev the engine, even though I was in drive. I tried this in reverse as well but still nothing.”

NHTSA complaint #11170543, filed 2019-01, 160,000 miles

“While driving on freeway at 70mph, wrench light and check engine light came on and car suddenly slowed to 40mph. This happened twice in a week. The trouble code shows p2112. Dealer says that my VIN is not covered by the consumer satisfaction program 13n03, but I have experienced the same problem. Dealer says etb must be replaced. I will have to pay for it.”

NHTSA complaint #11115584, filed 2018-08, 140,000 miles

“Electronic throttle body (etb) my 2009 Ford Escape will occasionally lurch/surge forward or stall out while I'm driving. I believe this is a problem that Ford addressed with an extended warranty a few years ago but I was not aware of this. I believe this is a safety issue and Ford should contact all owners!”

NHTSA complaint #11012186, filed 2017-08, 109,000 miles

“While driving the vehicle at around 50 MPH it lost all reaction to the accelerator and coasted to a stop while in heavy traffic. I turned the car off and waited 5 minutes, then started it again and began to drive. Within seconds the vehicle repeated the incident. I managed to get it into my driveway after repeated stops and restarts of the engine.”

NHTSA complaint #10548356, filed 2013-10, 51,500 miles

“Multiple times my car is stalling while driving. The first incident I was driving 55mph. I took vehicle to Ford and was told it was the electronic throttle body and that the part is on back order for at least 4 weeks. A 4 week part back order seems to me a strong indicator that several people are experiencing this very dangerous driving scenario.”
