“Wife was driving with my 3 kiddos going 30 mphs on a two lane highway and experienced a total power loss/engine shut down. No prior warning. This is potentially a dangerous situation. The expedition was stranded on the roadway with no engine power or electrical power. 8500 miles on this expedition. We had to call a tow and take to the dealership.”

NHTSA complaint #11561205, filed 2023-12

“Ford expedition max 2023. My vehicle has had issues since day one. Transmission has a Rough idle- can see hood shake, door shake, steering wheel shake. This is in all temperatures, it does not matter if the car has been sitting for 3 minutes or 2 days it does this. Transmission rough shifting gears 3-4-5 between 1-2 RPMs. What is going on with the transmission? Is it going to potentially lock up on me? Any transmission issue is a safety concern. …”

“I bought a 2023 FORD EXPEDITION MAX LIMITED for business purposes as a livery vehicle. I drive about 5000 miles a month. Problem 1: From the day I bought this vehicle from ford dealer in GJOVIK FORD in PLANO IL I hear kicks and clunks under my feet (most likely faulty transmission). The kicks and clunks happen when I'm about to come to a stop or when starting from a stop. Sometimes when turning. Its always when I let go of the gas or give it gas. It sounds like I'm driving a 10 year old car. …”

NHTSA complaint #11592441, filed 2024-06

“On May 16, 2026, my 2023 Ford Expedition with 6,197 miles caught fire while I was driving home from work. I smelled smoke inside the cabin, and within moments smoke began coming through the air vents. I pulled over and exited the vehicle. When I got out, I saw the engine compartment was on fire and heavy smoke was coming from under the hood. As I moved away from the vehicle, there were multiple loud pops and bangs coming from the engine area. Police and fire crews responded and extinguished the fire, but the vehicle is a total loss. This was a nearly new vehicle with very low mileage. …”
