“Since we bought our car, it has had a rattle upon startup. This was originally a recall, which we got repaired, but this repair did not make the rattle go away. I then had a transmission problem and had to have the transmission overhauled due to it having violent, jerky, unpredictable shifting between gears. When I mentioned the rattle again while they were fixing the transmission, they said that it’s a known problem with Ford cam phasers around our model year. …”
NHTSA complaint #11604266, filed 2024-07, 113,598 miles“On three separate occasions, my vehicle lost the ability to accelerate. The first time I was attempting to pass slow moving farm equipment when my vehicle lost power, had a loud vibrating/rattling noise and multiple dashboard warnings flashed. Luckily, I was able to merge back into my lane and pull off the side of the road. I took the vehicle in for service and was told I needed new phasers. Once I got my vehicle back, I was still experiencing issues. Fortunately, the next two times my vehicle lost power I was driving at low speeds. …”
NHTSA complaint #11624994, filed 2024-11, 137,973 miles“My expedition was reprogrammed when I bought it due to the Cam phaser rattle. This did not help. I was told this was normal and would not effect the engine. I had taken it in a second time to be reprogrammed an given the same information. My Ford service says fifth cylinder misfire. The car shakes and idles hard. The spark plug and parts were replaced as suggested with no change. Took it to the shop and was told I now need a new engine due to an internal failure of the engine. I called Ford and they said there is no recall on this year. …”
NHTSA complaint #11625300, filed 2024-11, 107,884 miles“Ford is aware of a design defect that causes the vct system to wear out within a short amount of time in brand new expeditions. When the vct system wears out, the vehicle immediately transitions into limp mode , which causes the vehicle to immediately (unsafely) decelerate to a speed of 15mph (or less on hills), creating dangerous situations, particularly on highways and when towing. We purchased our Expedition in march 2019, brand new. We purchased the vehicle with the heavy duty tow package, which provides towing up to 9,300lbs. …”
NHTSA complaint #11376121, filed 2020-11, 28,000 miles“Followed semi into dealer service parking lot. Semi turned left so moved forward to join line of cars into service bay. While coming to stop, semi on left backed up and coming right for me. At my stopping, auto engine shut off turned off engine as was trying to shift to reverse. By time engine turned back on, acknowledged reverse, engaged reverse, responded to accelerator being pushed, gear engaged, the truck was about to hit me as driver did not see me. Luckily driver noticed and slammed on brakes. By this time, vehicle was still trying to move so if truck did not stop, I would have been hit. …”
