“The vehicle is equipped with an automatic liftgate activated by motion detected under the rear bumper. Three weeks ago, I was loading items into the back of the vehicle. The vehicle was parked and off with the parking brake on. My children were buckling up in the vehicle. While I was loading the last item from the bottom of the cart, the lift gate unexpected started descending. I didn't hear the warning chimes and started standing up with the item. By that point, the gate was over halfway down and struck be just below the occipital prominence of the skull. …”
NHTSA complaint #11221981, filed 2019-06, 2,042 miles“Rear fixed vista roof panel exploded outward with a very loud - shotgun like - bang, leaving a large hole and a very dangerous shattered remaining panel that could fall and injure occupants, the panel is made of toughened glass as opposed to being laminated as the front windshield is. The incident occurred on a fairly quiet freeway, no cars in front and not under a bridge etc.”
NHTSA complaint #11297842, filed 2020-01, 2,900 miles“The driver and passanger rear doors have issues with the doul latches. They do not always security shut and the doors swing open while driving. When the temperatures drop, the latches do not work, therefore, the doors do not securely shut. I tool the vehicle to a Ford repair dealership and they informed me that this is an issue with millions of ford's. They suggested I contact you because there isn't a current recall on this vehicle. This issue has happened multiple times now.”
NHTSA complaint #11622828, filed 2024-10“I am writing to urgently request the initiation of a safety investigation concerning a serious and potentially widespread defect in Ford vehicles, specifically related to the center console’s metal chrome trim on limited models. I own a Ford Expedition, purchased in October 2019, and have encountered a severe issue where the chrome plating on the center console has begun peeling away, forming sharp, dangerous shards that have already caused significant injury to myself and my children. …”
NHTSA complaint #11593690, filed 2024-06“On May 26, 2026, my 2019 Ford Expedition suffered a total systemic safety failure that resulted in my toddler being locked inside the vehicle in direct sunlight, requiring an emergency extraction. I used the FordPass app to unlock the vehicle and opened the driver’s door and passenger door on the diver's side. I placed my bag containing the proximity key fob onto the driver’s seat floorboard while the vehicle was completely off. I closed the driver's door and walked to the rear door behind the driver's seat, which was still open, to buckle my child into his car seat. …”
