“Since we bought our car, it has had a rattle upon startup. This was originally a recall, which we got repaired, but this repair did not make the rattle go away. I then had a transmission problem and had to have the transmission overhauled due to it having violent, jerky, unpredictable shifting between gears. When I mentioned the rattle again while they were fixing the transmission, they said that it’s a known problem with Ford cam phasers around our model year. …”
NHTSA complaint #11604266, filed 2024-07, 113,598 miles“Ford is aware of a design defect that causes the vct system to wear out within a short amount of time in brand new expeditions. When the vct system wears out, the vehicle immediately transitions into limp mode , which causes the vehicle to immediately (unsafely) decelerate to a speed of 15mph (or less on hills), creating dangerous situations, particularly on highways and when towing. We purchased our Expedition in march 2019, brand new. We purchased the vehicle with the heavy duty tow package, which provides towing up to 9,300lbs. …”
NHTSA complaint #11376121, filed 2020-11, 28,000 miles“Caught fire after using factory installed remote starter. A few days prior to the fire, the cruise control stopped working, after the cruise control stopped working, we received two warning lights on the dash display, service advance trac and hill decent control fault. I took photos of the dash warning and attempted to schedule a service appointment with the dealership, however the fire occurred before we could get it serviced. Ford sent their fire investigators to inspect vehicle, but we never received any explanation for the cause of the fire or a copy of their findings. …”
NHTSA complaint #11349146, filed 2020-08, 9,293 miles“Approximately One week ago, I was on the freeway when at 70 miles an hour warning light came in with brake system. Failure came up, and I lost all power to the vehicle and shut down and I tried restarting it on neutral. I was in traffic, which made it more difficult to go onto the side of the road went to I was in the center divider. There was no power of any kind to left side of vehicle windows, door locks, etc. …”
NHTSA complaint #11609282, filed 2024-08“My expedition since I bought it completely turns off on me on roads and highways and throws up a wrench symbol and check engine light. Everytime I bring it in to the dealer they keep clearing codes and never fixing anything even tho I have extended warranty. They have had my car for 5-6 months maybe longer but the last time they had it for over a month said everything is fine for our roadtrip. Well the car turned off on me and died in the middle of the Utah Highway... had to be towed. was told it has 70 plus alerts”
