“1995 Ford Explorer stalls without waring at any given time, whether at idle or during acceleration. Has been checked out by local Ford dealership where no problems have been found.”

NHTSA complaint #10030790, filed 2003-08, 91,000 miles

“I retained the old part for your inspection. I also have photos of the part I email you. When this non-servicable part broke, raw exhaust blew through the firewall and gassed us out of the vehicle. I believe there is a potential carbon monoxide hazard.”

NHTSA complaint #756790, filed 2002-01

“I don't know that the temperature gauge has ever worked correctly in this car - I just guessed dates and mileage, but I have had the car since 1997 (32,000 miles) and it has never worked correctly. This is my second Ford Explorer with this problem. Furthermore, I recently spoke with a friend who had the same problem in his 1997 Ford Explorer. I do not think this problem is being reported because it is not obvious when the temperature gauge fails.”

NHTSA complaint #741967, filed 2001-03

“After starting, and usually within a few minutes after being run, the engine will stall, such as when I leave my house, drive two miles to the coffee shop,. It does not seem to stall after being run say , for a prolonged period of time. Its the first 5-10 minutes. Took to local dealer, he said it needed a tune up, and did a tune up. Veh. Still has problem. Will stall on warm, cool, or cold days. Temp. Does not seem to be a factor.”

NHTSA complaint #712587, filed 1999-09

“My concern is that everytime we take our Explorer on a road trip we get a check engine light. It will come on at the first 200 miles of the trip. I've pulled over everytime it has happened and checked all the services on it. I always found everything is where it should be. When we have departed from every stop to fill up. The light comes back on right at 2mi. I took the vehicle in to have the computer checked for codes. Everytime they say it's the intake”
