“I was driving at 45 miles an hour. With no warning, the car had 28 warnings pop up and it just died with no warning. No power steering, no brake assist at all, no lights (not even emergency light would turn on). I was not able to put it into neutral so I was just stuck. Ford roadside was not able to get moving so I was just stuck. I called a tow and it was dragged up. The dealer determined it was a faulty 12v battery.”
NHTSA complaint #11708989, filed 2026-01“The vehicle's message center reported multiple system failures while driving 70 MPH on a two lane Montana highway. The steering assist failure caused the wheel to jerk left/right before locking up. It took all the strength I had to keep the vehicle from exiting the roadway. If someone else was driving they would not have likely been as fortunate. The vehicle is now parked inside while I wait to hear from Ford. The local dealer won't look at the truck until the middle of next month. The truck has about 1500 miles.”
NHTSA complaint #11550318, filed 2023-10“The turn signal stalk on the steering column will stick after being activated. It requires a sizable amount of force to disable and turn off the turn signal, enough that there is concern of damaging the mechanism.”
NHTSA complaint #11744202, filed 2026-06“Gauge cluster completely dark. Cluster is a screen type when dark no speed visible. No warning lights available for safety feedback. Driving without speed is very dangerous mileage u known as display shows mileage.”
NHTSA complaint #11598210, filed 2024-07“Over the past year, the steering on my 2023 Ford F‑150 Lightning has progressively developed a severe “sticky” or “notchy” condition when turning the wheel to the right. The steering wheel will resist movement and feel like it is caught on a notch. Additional force is required to overcome the bind, and when it releases, the vehicle abruptly jerks to the right. This sudden movement can cause the truck to swerve into the adjacent lane or off the roadway. The condition began as an occasional notchy feel but has worsened significantly over time. …”
