NHTSA complaint #10560585, filed 2014-01, 226,000 miles“Involved in a roll over accident caused by the right front tire (purchased in 5-13-2014) bfg 275/60r17 from discount tires. Truck was totaled and the one piece of tire we have does not have the DOT numbers on them. When the blow out occurred I hit soft sand losing traction causing the truck to roll 3 times while on a main road. I will be including three pictures - one of the tire on its rim, one of the truck at the tow yard and one of the piece of tire we picked up off the road upon my release from the hospital. …”
NHTSA complaint #10789127, filed 2015-11, 115,000 miles“Driving down hwy 35w south bound by lakeville, minnesota. I heard slight grinding noise from front end. I braked and slowed down and took immediate exit from free way on exit ramp. While I entered exit ramp then front end of my 2002 Ford f150 fx4 dropped to the pavement and tire blew. Upon inspection the factory aluminum rim had split in two causing the tire to blow.”
NHTSA complaint #10091102, filed 2004-09, 6,600 miles“Takata recall. While I was driving I noticed a loud pop and my truck started vibrating and spun me sideways going down the highway. I had fought it until I was able to get it under control and come to a stop. (I was lucky enough that nobody else was heading in my direction because the truck took up both sides of the road). I got out and looked to see what had happened and seen my aluminum Ford factory rim had busted into pieces. Takata recall. A problem that I am having as of right now is spark plugs keep flying out and destroying my coil packs. This is the third time it has done this.”
NHTSA complaint #10853941, filed 2016-04, 136,500 miles“Vehicle was traveling at 15 MPH and lost control due to a codder pin snapping in half causing the right front wheel to come entirely off of the vehicle. The disk brake stayed connected to the rim and was also removed entirely from the vehicle causing the brake lines to be severed which caused no pressure. With no pressure in the brake lines I was not able to stop the other wheels but was forced to let the vehicle come to a skidding stop, which happened by hitting a tree. …”
