“Took my car in for service and the dealership advised that all my lug nuts needed to be replaced because they were swollen and were very difficult to remove. The service adviser at the dealership said that this is a common occurrence. I asked that all 24 lug nuts be returned. When they were returned the service tech who worked on my truck also said that the lug nuts were a poor design.”
NHTSA complaint #11241398, filed 2019-08, 117,371 miles“Lug nuts on vehicle expand split and cannot be removed from wheel. Various mechanics at costco and Ford dealerships state that this is a known problem. The replacement of the lug nuts cost $165.00 for to replace on the four tires. After replacing the lug nuts by an authorized Ford dealer I was told this could happen again. The problem was discovered when I tried to rotate the tires. When I paid for the replacement and aske3d for the old parts I was told they had already been disposed of.”
NHTSA complaint #10825426, filed 2016-02, 76,000 miles“The factory lug wrench provided with the vehicle does not fit the factory lug nuts on the wheels. This makes it impossible to change a flat tire without roadside assistance or having to purchase a separate lug wrench and hammer.”
NHTSA complaint #11091345, filed 2018-05, 85,950 miles“Trying to replace tires on this vehicle. Ford manufactured truck with p235/75/r17 tires, and this is on door plate. No one will sell this size tire for this truck which has towing package, except Ford. The only size anyone will sell is p265/60/r18 or p275/55/r20. One exception: tire rack will sell p255/65/17 if rims are in good condition. Two Ford dealership service departments even had problems. Ford maintains that it is factory equipment and therefore is correct for the truck. I believe an error may have been made at the factory. …”
NHTSA complaint #10865260, filed 2016-05, 57,000 miles“Driving home I started to hear and feel this noise on my engine like a clicking/grounting sound. I could hear it more when making turnes and when slowing down. Next day I got on my truck and when in reverse my truck would't let me because it looks like the front tires are locked. And can only go forward. The transmission does not go in reverse, transmission shift lever sequence starter interlock, and transmission braking effect. Transmission range sensor (trs) that was calibrated out of specification for reverse gear.”
