“On numerous occasions, I have experienced a momentary loss of control of my car when braking. The car accelerates momentarily after the brakes engage and I have taken my foot off of the accelerator. This problem occurs when decelerating around a curve , driving downhill, or when decelerating over a bump or other area of raised pavement like my driveway. These instances have occurred on city streets, at speeds under 40 MPH. When it occurs it feels as if the car is accelerating. I would also describe the feeling as a surge, even though the car is braking, and should be slowing. …”
NHTSA complaint #11096454, filed 2018-05, 26,000 miles“While braking using light to medium pressure (and, thus, while the car is using regenerative braking), if I hit a pothole or bump just right, the car will surge forward as if the accelerator was pushed. (and, of course it wasn't.) the problem is relatively intermittent, but that doesn't mean it is nonexistent. Quite the opposite; it can be recreated as long as the conditions are correct (as described above). Even when you recreate the exact conditions, it is still intermittent (but, again, that doesn't mean nonexistent). …”
NHTSA complaint #11081380, filed 2018-03, 15,000 miles“The regenerative braking will cut out under specific circumstances and the car will feel like it is lurching forward instead of slowing down. The situation is: braking using only regen brakes, no friction brakes; steady pedal pressure; going 15-20 MPH; turning the steering wheel at least 90 degrees left or right; driving on smooth pavement. Data I have logged from the sobdmc indicates that the traction motor briefly reduces its negative torque which causes the car to surge forward. …”
NHTSA complaint #10758745, filed 2015-08, 13,800 miles“Wife was driving the car to work approaching a stop sign to a very busy highway. She went to apply the brake when she discovered that the brakes had completely failed, steering control had been lost and the parking brake had been disabled as well. Basically all means of bringing the vehicle to a controlled stop had failed at the same time. Being unable to bring the car to a stop it carried her out in the highway were luckily the large truck coming down the road was paying attention and managed to swerve around her. …”
NHTSA complaint #10906801, filed 2016-09, 45,000 miles“The contact owns a 2013 Ford Fusion Energi. The contact stated that after starting the vehicle and shifting into gear, the vehicle failed to respond. While driving, the brake warning light illuminated. The brake pedal was depressed but failed to respond. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the circuit was open. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. While driving, the brake lights illuminated. While making a left turn and slowing down, the became inoperable. The vehicle failed to move forward or backward. …”
