Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“While driving on a street in my neighborhood, we found that the ignition switch could be moved to the off or accessory position while driving. Noticed that steering, brakes, and other components became disabled. Luckily we were able to safely move the vehicle to the roadside and assess the situation. A problem like this could result in catastrophic system failure in the vehicle while driving at high speeds, and could cause possible death if we weren't aware of this problem. Please inform other vehicle owners of this possible dangerous issue.”

NHTSA complaint #11001376, filed 2017-06, 140,000 miles

“Excessive rust build up on brake rotors and calipers. Rotors & pads previously replaced in mar., 2007 after driving 40,000 miles. Needed replacement again in oct., 2009 after only driving 14,000 additional miles. Instrument cluster failed and was replaced in june, 2011 at 58,000 miles. Dealer advised no recall on this model, although identical instrument clusters for newer vehicles had been recalled and were being replaced at no charge.”

“I have called repeatedly and filed reports of electrical and the brakes in the 99 Gmc suburban. I have called several times about the smell of electrical burning . No one cared. Wires have melted and shorted out the headlights, tail lights, air conditioner etc. No one has done anything and Gmc refuses to do recall.”
