“The contact owns a 2023 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while her husband was driving at various speeds, the rear liftgate door erroneously opened. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who diagnosed that the exterior touchpad switch assembly was faulty and needed to be replaced. The touchpad switch assembly was replaced, and the vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V060000 (LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES). …”
NHTSA complaint #11635615, filed 2025-01, 35,000 miles“The contact owns a 2023 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the tailgate opened without driver input. The sensor failed to notify the contact that the tailgate was opened. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the tailgate sensor was replaced. The failure persisted. The vehicle was returned to the dealer where it was confirmed that the VIN was not under recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. Vin tool shows no information. The failure mileage was 900.”

The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the tailgate inadvertently opened without warning. As a result of the failure, a cooler fell from the bed of the vehicle. No warning light was illuminated. The contact was concerned for his safety and the safety of other drivers while driving on the roadway. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The dealer was notified of the failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 2,000.”

The contact stated that the vehicle was idling excessively high without the accelerator pedal being depressed. While driving 70 MPH, the tailgate unintendedly opened. The tailgate warning light was illuminated. Additionally, the blind spot detection warning light illuminated without another vehicle being nearby. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, who was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 6,100.”

The contact stated that the tonneau cover failed to lock and latch securely since the vehicle was purchased brand new. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where unknown repairs were performed; however, the failure persisted. Additionally, the contact stated that the latching part of the tonneau cover was missing an inch-long piece. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.”
