“Started the truck and applied the brakes to shift into gear and the brake pedal went to the floor. After several times pressing the pedal there was no brakes at all. The truck was towed to the dealer where I was informed all the brake line were rusted and needed to be replaced at a cost of $1,300.00. The truck only had 35,000 miles on it. If I had been driving, I am sure this would have likely caused a serious accident.”
NHTSA complaint #10496012, filed 2013-01, 35,000 miles“Depressed brake pedal to stop truck and pedal went straight to the floor. Front brake lines had ruptured due to corrosion. This truck is my main tow vehicle and I had a small trailer on when this occurred. My truck has not seen much winter use since new and I am the owner since new.”
NHTSA complaint #10476785, filed 2012-09, 58,196 miles“Driving through an intersection at 40 when a another vehicle made a left turn in front of me . I applied my brakes and pedal went to the floor . I swerved and avoided the on coming vehicle . The rear hard steel brake line above the fuel tank burst due to corrosion . No warning no fluid or brake light just a catastrophe failure of line. Upon inspection line is not corroded on the frame rail before the fuel tank just behind the tank.”
NHTSA complaint #10478377, filed 2012-10, 139,003 miles“Major rust of the undercarriage of my 2005 Gmc sierra 78,000 miles. So far had to replace brake rotors, brake lines , fuel radiator and lines. Frame and cross members as well as control arms are all rusted. Made complaint with Gmc they had me bring to a dealer to tell me this is normal rusting. Two of my relatives have the same year truck but are not experiencing this issue and we all live in the same area drive same roads.”
NHTSA complaint #10416571, filed 2011-08, 78,000 miles“I have a 2005 Gmc sierra 2500hd crew cab 4x4 with the 6.0 engine and 5 speed manual transmission. Everytime I come to a slow stop the ABS unit engages and reduces pedal pressure, causing the brake power to fade and increasing the distance of my stop.”
