“I was driving my 2005 Honda crv on the freeway when the engine suddenly began to race and the car began to accelerate rapidly. I couldn't feel the gas pedal with my foot. I was able to put the car in neutral, pull off on the shoulder, and turn off the ignition, stopping the engine. I moved the driver's seat backward, got down on the floor to look, and discovered that the factory-equipped floor mat had shifted so it covered the gas pedal. I removed the floor mat, re-started the car, and the problem was gone. …”
NHTSA complaint #10386521, filed 2011-03, 55,000 miles“After starting the car I put my foot on the brake pedal, took off the emergency brake, and put the car into drive. My foot was still on the brake, but the car took off at a high speed as if I had floored the gas pedal, and would not stop with my foot still on the brake pedal. I threw the gear into park and turned off the ignition. This same thing happened to me in september 2009 while I was driving on the long island expressway. At that time the brake would not stop the car, so I put the car in neutral and pulled off the road, put the car in park and turned off the ignition. …”
