Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“The contact owns a 1999 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while driving at unknown speeds, the vehicle suddenly lost acceleration power. The contact stated that the failure recurred intermittently. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted about the failure. The failure mileage was 174,000.”

NHTSA complaint #10525231, filed 2013-07, 174,000 miles

“Transmission failing. Clutch engages late and suddenly: engine revs as gas is applied but clutch doesn't engage, then clutch engages suddenly, causing car to jerk forward hard. This is dangerous--can't pull out into traffic, because I don't know if car will actually go when I step on the gas, and car coasts as transmission tries (but fails) to shift between e.g. 1st and 2nd. Please require a recall on this--many people have reported the same problem in auto newsgroups on the internet. This is clearly a manufacturing defect, and a potentially serious safety problem as well.”

NHTSA complaint #762235, filed 2002-05

“The contact stated while driving 20 MPH on dry asphalt roads, the vehicle did not accelerate when the accelerator pedal was depressed all the way to the floor. There was no response. The vehicle was pulled to the side of the road, and all the warning lights illuminated. It was taken to a service dealer, who was unable to duplicate the problem. Updated 10/30/2006 - the dealer replaced electrical parts. The recalled part had been previously replaced when the recall was receibed about two years ago.”

NHTSA complaint #10170066, filed 2006-10, 108,347 miles

“1999 Honda Odyssey ex. 65,300miles. The check engine light on. Code p0740 faulty trans. When start acceleration the first gear is slippery and the driver feels kick-back . Especially when drive on free way it takes time to speed up from the fist gear to the next gear.”

NHTSA complaint #10276035, filed 2009-07

“Consumer received two recalls 99v-158000 and 99v157000, concerning Honda/sliding door latch, and Honda/air intake resonator; dealer been notified and still informing consumer of no parts received. Seeking NHTSA help in this matter before injury or even death may occur because dealer not taking mfr. Recall seriously.”
