Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“On multiple occasions, the idle-stop function engaged at a red light and then either the entire car shut down or the computer froze for a minute or two then restarted. For each incident, we had cars behind us that either nearly hit us when we did not go forward when the light turned green or nearly hit us by aggressively going around us while we restarted the engine.”

NHTSA complaint #11690366, filed 2025-09

“The Auto Idle Stop mode has caused my car to stall out at least 10 times since I bought the vehicle in August 2024. Each time it has occurred, it has taken me several minutes to restart the car. I’ve bought my vehicle to Hilton Head Honda in Bluffton, SC two times to have them inspect the vehicle. The only thing they have done is replaced the battery which has not solved the problem.”

NHTSA complaint #11758238, filed 2026-08

“The start stop system has failed to restart at a busy traffic light more than half a dozen different times after a 1 hour drive. Short drives do not bring this issue out. This got me stuck at a light, drivers annoyed honking and confused as I try to get my vehicle to start again. Turning the van completely off and back on again seems to get the van to restart again. …”

NHTSA complaint #11705610, filed 2025-12

“I was stopped at a stoplight. The car has idle stop so the engine turns off at the light. When I tried to go the car went into park. I could not get it back in drive and had to turn the car off then back on. Meanwhile I am stuck in the middle of the road with traffic. This has happened several times before.”

NHTSA complaint #11758869, filed 2026-08

“For a fourth time this year, the vehicle suddenly loses power while travelling on the freeway. It completely shuts off acceleration for 30-60 seconds and then picks back up by itself. The last two ocassions it happened was between 8:10 am and 8:12 am on August 18,2025. It happened on the freeway again on August 22 at about 8:13 am. I fear for my safety and life driving on the freeway”
