Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“Engine Stop/Start turned off when trying to make a turn. When it did the steering would not move. Also when Stop/Start turns off it was dangerous when turning. I email Honda and they called me back. They could have it disabled but it would cost $80 and I would have to buy the part and they would install it. This is a new truck bought last month.”

NHTSA complaint #11657197, filed 2025-04

“When sitting at a traffic light, the auto start/stop feature engaged and shut down the engine, when my foot was removed from the brake, the truck did not restart. I had to put the truck in park and manually press the start button. This caused a safety issue by making the vehicle inoperable in the middle of an intersection. The vehicle has not been inspected yet, but will in three days when i take it to the dealer.”

NHTSA complaint #11772458, filed 2026-10

NHTSA complaint #11721115, filed 2026-02

“Since the beginning of ownership of my 2025 Honda Ridgeline Sport, the Auto Idle Stop system has malfunctioned. The dashboard remains illuminated and displays an error message related to the system. I am concerned about the reliability of the system and the possibility that the engine may not restart as expected. This issue has existed since I first got the vehicle. I am reporting it so that NHTSA can review the problem and determine whether it presents a safety concern.”

NHTSA complaint #11773999, filed 2026-10

“While sitting in traffic with my 2025 Honda Ridgeline, with the engine stopped as the brake had been fully applied, when I released pressure off the brake, my vehicle would not restart as it normally would in this situation, thereby stranding me in a serious traffic situation. I notified the police and my vehicle was eventually towed to the nearest Honda dealer to try to determine what the issue was . Scary situation since my vehicle only has approximately 25K miles on it.”
