1998: “The rear tire developed a bulge in the center of the tread while riding. The motorcycle became barely rideable. At a friend's shop we removed and inspected the tire. It appeared that the tread was separating from the casing. I have since seen about 2 dozen complaints on various internet message boards describing the very same problem. I have a file of these descriptions if you are interested.( DOT number: call me tire size: 180/70r 16 )”
NHTSA complaint #710781, filed 1999-091997: “I was driving in the rain on a wet street. A car pulled out in front of me. I applied the foot brake (rear brake) hard. I did not apply the front brake lever at all. The front wheel locked-up and the motorcycle imediately went down. I believe it is a design flaw for a front wheel to lock-up when a rider does not apply the front brake. A motorcycle can be handled with the rear wheel locked, but a motorcycle will go down if the front wheel locks. In my opinion, the linked brake system is very dangerous.”
