“Car started to run really bad then when I tried to crank it backup it ran for a few minutes and died. I noticed gas then flames coming from exhaust pipe. It will run for few minutes but really bad , then it will die. It want crank immediately after it dies you have to wait a while before it will crank again. I haven't been able to find out what the problems are to correct them.”
NHTSA complaint #10408784, filed 2011-06, 160,000 miles“I own a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a 4.0l 6 cylinder motor. The engine has been showing zero oil pressure, after replacing 2 oil pressure switches, and an oil pump. The vehicle constantly overheats. Now, it was suggested by the dealer the cylinder head my be cracked. After reading about my vehicle on-line, there are more than numerous similar incidents with other Jeep owners.”
NHTSA complaint #10268559, filed 2009-05, 101,000 miles“Same thing happened to me with the air doors broke or stuck ( made of cheap plastic) . $900.00 + to pull whole dash out and fix and replace . I had to pay that for a very known and common problem.”
NHTSA complaint #10310542, filed 2010-02, 96,000 miles“Approximately 5 years ago, the heat stopped working on the passenger side of my 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Then last year, the heat and A/C stopped working completely. This makes for very dangerous driving conditions as visibility is greatly reduced at times. Its too costly for me to repair myself. It appears that this is a problem for most of these vehicles and I can't understand why something hasn't been done about it. Also, the passenger side seat heating element stopped working after it apparently shorted out, luckily, no fire occurred. …”
NHTSA complaint #10352540, filed 2010-08, 100,000 miles“I have owned a Jeep for 3 years. Since I have purchased the Jeep I have had nothing but problems. The rotors went bad, the steering manifold went bad, the engine went bad, and the motor in the window went bad and broke. Now I have replaced my left rear brake light six or seven times. It slowly started to fade out, and now the entire light goes out at night when our lights are turned on and we have to depress the brake. It is also barely noticeable during the day. …”
