“The vehicle was running, in park position. A loud bang occurred as if someone had just hit my vehicle hard, but I felt nothing. I looked around the vehicle and did not see anything or anyone around that could have caused the loud bang. Later, I noticed the vehicle was overheating and was losing coolant. A closer inspection indicated a broken radiator shroud and a shattered fan assembly.”

NHTSA complaint #10213504, filed 2008-01, 42,000 miles

“The weather turned to snow and I needed the defrost/ heater. The passenger side only blows cold air. My visibility became so impaired I had to pull over and abandon the vehicle until the following day. I took it to my mechanic, the diagnosis is broken blend air door and recirculation door, estimate $1200.00.”

NHTSA complaint #10247928, filed 2008-11, 79,289 miles

“I have a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee 6 cylinder 4.0. Yesterday my cooling fan blew up for no apparent reason, damaging radiator and area around cooling fan. This is an extremely dangerous problem since if the hood was up at the time the fan blew up, someone could have gotten maimed or killed. This is the same issue as reported on your january listing of problems.”

NHTSA complaint #10152796, filed 2006-03, 55,000 miles

“This is in relation to action # ea05-020 on the 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee. On the date listed below, the blades separated from the motor and the shrapnel punctured my radiator and my battery. The car was in motion so, the hood was closed and no one was injured. However, I had to spend about $800 in parts to repair the vehicle.”
