“I was driving when all of a sudden my vehicle cut off in the middle of traffic. Also, sunday morning I was driving to church when my vehicle would not start. I was told my a mechanic (not on duty) that it could be my fuel pump, wiring or catalytic converter. Please look into this matter as soon as possible.”
NHTSA complaint #11170686, filed 2019-01, 145,000 miles“I am sending this correspondence after having heard about the safety related defect concerning the fuel tank system integrity in rear-impacts or crashes in certain Jeep products. I own a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee that I purchased new. My 16 y/o son has driven this vehicle until now. I do not feel that he is safe driving this vehicle now because of the findings in your investigation. …”
NHTSA complaint #10744570, filed 2015-07, 174,500 miles“My Jeep has a safety recall a-02 safety recall to inspect your vehicle's vapor canister vent hose and fuel filler inlet check valve, nevertheless I was told by a chrysler dealer in mexico that it does not apply to my Grand Cherokee. I need to know if this is true or what can I do to have this issue resolved.”
NHTSA complaint #10519560, filed 2013-06, 75,950 miles“The engine cranks and runs fine but after you drive for a while the engine shuts off. It happens while you are driving or coming to a stop. It is random. It usually starts back up and runs fine until next time. When the engine dies, you do not have steering assist or brake assist. It is very hard to steer it off the road. A woman may have a hard time steering it or stopping it. I don't let my wife drive our Jeep much at all. It doesn't matter if you are driving in the city or on the freeway when it decides to shut off. Our Jeep is a 4wd with automatic transmission.”
NHTSA complaint #10984921, filed 2017-05, 155,500 miles“I was rear ended in my '02 Jeep Grand Cherokee. My vehicle does have a manufactured installed trailer hitch. After the accident, it was apparent that the gas tank was still hit by the vehicle. The hitch did nothing to keep the vehicle from getting to the tank. There are visible graze marks where the vehicle hit the hitch and proceeded to the gas tank. Still not feeling safe from the chrysler recall that the hitch will prevent a fire hazard if involved in a rear end accident. Chrysler will not even look at the vehicle since it has a hitch. Photos are available upon request. …”
