“The Jeep stalls for no reason. Just stops running. It was repaired three times before I acquired it. I have done the same repairs twice to no avail. I was told there was a recall and was also told I'd be notified but have not to date. I just replaced the computer brain and the coil yet again.”

NHTSA complaint #10554737, filed 2013-12, 163,506 miles

“I went in to have the recall of my 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee done this morning (safety recall n45/NHTSA 13v-252 rear structural reinforcement), and the Jeep dealer refused to install the trailer hitch per the recall specifications. They said that it looked fine and put a sticker on it after making me wait for 2 hours. This, even though the aftermarket hitch that is installed on mine is so corroded that the ball and attachment point cannot be removed. …”

NHTSA complaint #10622084, filed 2014-08, 154,000 miles

“On a trip from northern virginia I was south bound on hwy 15 when I began to smell smoke and applied my brakes. The pedal went to the floor as smoke rolled out from under the car. I tried to down shift into low as my car was in flames and smoke engulfed the hood. I entered the on ramp for hwy 460 bypass east bound when my transmission caught a lower gear, my car was still moving when I shifted into neutral and jammed the car into park and exited my Jeep. After I ran (approx. …”

“This is a complaint regarding chrysler recall campaign n45 in connection with a safety issue related to the fuel tank in Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles. Chrysler has communicated with me twice since july 2013 indicating that my 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee is subject to a safety recall. The most recent communication is an official safety recall notice. The chrysler dealer has no information about this recall and therefore will not schedule any remedial action to comply with the recall notice. …”

NHTSA complaint #10563276, filed 2014-02, 88,060 miles

“I own a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I just read about an investigation regarding a possible safety issue with the gas tank on these cars in the event of a rear end collision. This might be a factor and if not should be addressed. There is a heat shield that is about a square foot in size mounted in front of the fuel tank that is bolted to the floor board of the car. It is held on with two steel screws with washers. Since steel and aluminum will react when place together the holes through the aluminum become oversized and the shields drop off. …”
