“I received an important safety recall regarding the fuel tank on my vehicle (n45/ NHTSA 13v-252). I have called my local Jeep dealership a few times in the span of a couple of months and still they say they do not have the parts needed to fix my vehicle.”
NHTSA complaint #10566828, filed 2014-03, 226,732 miles“Component (diode) on 60 pin PCM has a short causing injector number 6 to stick wide open. Result is a cylinder compressing fuel which can lead to explosion, also raw fuel escaping out of the tail pipe and large amounts of smoke. Gasoline pulls the oil off of cylinder wall causing excessive friction and engine damage along with catalytic converter damage. If rear ended when injector is sticking open could cause explosion or fire! I have confirmed this on 3 other 93-95 Grand Cherokee obd I models as well. Jeep was idling near someone welding and the injector stuck open and started a fire. …”
NHTSA complaint #11183244, filed 2019-02, 243,000 miles“We have a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee that has an exposed plastic gas tank in the rear and it has no protection if rear-ended it is a fire or explosion waiting to happen! The Jeep dealer installed a flimsy trailer hitch that exposes the tank even more than the after market hitch I removed to get the Jeep dealers fix. We are very disappointed and believe our life is in danger every time we drive our 95 Jeep Grand Cherokee lerado. They should install a stronger tank along with a very strong skid plate that bends up behind the tank to add to protecting the tank. Along with a much stronger hitch.”
NHTSA complaint #10816592, filed 2015-12, 1 miles“I have had 4 rebuilt fuel pumps replaced on my 95 Jeep Grand Cherokee since noember 4,2002 and they keep failing. There is nothing wrong with my car other than the fuel pump. The mechanic has checked the tank. I have now found out that the dealer selling the pump to the station may not cover the warranty. It sounds like this should be a recall but the dealer only wants to send me a new pump. The dealer is northeast auto outlet, grant & academy road in phila.,pa.”
NHTSA complaint #10000470, filed 2003-01, 91,850 miles“A relatively minor traffic accident occurred on may 18, 2002. Coming down the exit ramp of the interstate, proceeded through on the green light, about 35 MPH. At the intersection my Jeep impacted with the other car in a glancing blow. The other car coming from left to right. My left front corner against their right front side. Before the car came to rest, an engine fire erupted my 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The fire completely consumed the engine compartment; all wiring, hoses and some metal parts melted. The fire appeared to erupt on the drivers side of the engine. . …”
