“Whenever I start the vehicle and turn the steering I am hearing a clunking noise.recently whenever I turn the steering while driving I am hearing this sound. It was stated in the april 2018 issue of consumer reports that the 2014-2016 Kia soul has the same problem”

NHTSA complaint #11080401, filed 2018-03, 38,739 miles

“While driving on a city street and making a right hand turn my steering went out in the car. I could not turn the vehicle at all and could only proceed straight. I came really close to a head on collision. I was able to pull off the road and stop the car and wait for help. The vehicle is not safe to drive as it randomly does this with the steering. Our mechanic states that it is the electrical steering that has to be replaced in the car which is $2,000 +/-. I researched and do not find any recalls concerning the electrical steering.”

NHTSA complaint #11407842, filed 2021-04, 127,000 miles

“I was driving 70 MPH down highway when car shutdown and sterling locked, unable to control vehicle. Come to find out next few days it was the accelator that caused it. I had no control and almost got killed by a 18 wheeler driving in next lane.”

NHTSA complaint #10874211, filed 2016-06, 31,000 miles

“My 2014 Kia Sorento had 38,283 miles on it and the rack and pinion needed to be replaced. Prior to taking into the mechanic for repair I noticed a clicking/pop sound when I would turn my steering wheel. I was advised by the mechanic that it was faulty part and wore out very quickly. I called Kia to see what they had to say about it and they said that they had no complaints with this issue. I was also advised that it about 3-6 months and I may need to replace another part of the steering but at this time it is working within manufacturers specs. …”

NHTSA complaint #11308788, filed 2020-02, 38,283 miles

“1st occurrence: on july 10, 2017, at about 11:30 a.m., I made a left turn on a city street in las cruces, nm, which took me through an underpass. It was a 'wide' turn and I was probably moving at about 25 MPH. About half way through the turn I lost power steering and by brute force, was able to turn my car and avoid the wall of the underpass. Had there been another car to my right, I would most likely have hit it on the driver side. I brought my Sorento to a stop and was able to restart the engine. I am unsure which came first, the loss of power steering or the engine stopping. …”
