“I am reporting my panoramic sunroof exploding on my 2014 Kia Sorento sxl. I was driving on a very smooth interstate high way in the morning with no traffic around me. I was traveling at 70mph and it was morning about 60 degrees. I was on the phone with my wife and heard a loud sound (sounded like a gunshot) and then it started raining down glass around me. As I stated, I was on the road and there was not another vehicle around me. …”

“The panoramic roof fixed panel is shattered. When we returned home from church, we heard a rattling noise and opened the panel and saw the entire back panel is shattered with pieces of glass shards in the back seat. Looking at the top of the car the glass was actually separating from the frame which could not have been caused by rock, hail or anything else but faulty manufacturing. I contacted Kia grossinger dealership and was advised to bring in the car for them to look at and determine the cause. …”

NHTSA complaint #10980300, filed 2017-04, 43,800 miles

“We were driving on interstate 540 n, 70 MPH, normal driving conditions, and light traffic when the sunroof exploded. It sounded like we had been hit by another vehicle or sometype of explosion. I immediately looked in the rear view mirror to see a large piece of dark glass flying off from the top of my car. The inside shade was closed, no glass entered inside the vehicle. We pulled off at the road and discovered a large hole in the middle of the first sunroof. The remaining portion of the first sunroof is shattered. …”
