“When I turn off the engine, the electronics (lights, radio) in the car stay on and the doors won't lock if I wanted to leave the vehicle. I have to start the engine and turn it off multiple times (sometimes 20+ times) to completely shut everything off. Mazda recognizes this is a very common problem, but won't do a recall on it.”

NHTSA complaint #11354049, filed 2020-09, 50,000 miles

“When the car is in park position and I go to hit the power button to turn the car off; I get a message that states I must put the car in park. The engine is will turn off but all electrical features (radio, lights, etc.) are still on. It will not allow me to lock the doors in this state. This is happening when I attempt to turn off the car.”

NHTSA complaint #11091471, filed 2018-05, 95,038 miles

“I was traveling about 35mph up a slight incline when the engine lost power and started shaking. The traction control system, tire monitoring, and check engine light all came on at the same time. The engine didn't have any power even when I pressed all the way on the accelerator I couldn't get it to go any faster than 45mph.”

NHTSA complaint #10853026, filed 2016-04, 55,000 miles

“When I turn off the engine, the electronics (lights, radio) in the car stay on and the doors won't lock if I wanted to leave the vehicle. I've found that, while in park, I need to pull the gearshift hard towards the steering wheel for the car to register that I'm actually in park. I've read online that Mazda recognizes this is a very common problem, but won't do a recall on it. This issue has been happening for well over a year now. I'm adding an arbitrary date below.”

NHTSA complaint #11390703, filed 2021-01, 40,000 miles

“Takata recall. For the past 2 months my 2014 Mazda CX-5 will not shut completely off after placing the car in park. Now what was once a month or week is now several times a day. The radio, lights, and beeping will stay on as if the vehicle has not been put into park. Its parked and not moving but everything stays on. I will have to turn the car back on put it in drive to park and reverse to park several times before the car will acknowledge parked.”
