“Was driving vehicle at 45 mile per hour. Suddenly noticed steering wheel was off center. I did not hit a pothole or any other obstructions on the road. Steering became very loose and vehicle hard to steer. When braking the vehicle started to make squealing sound and pulled to one side. Suspension became very harsh even on good surface road.. This is a catastrophic failure with no warning. Fortunately was able to get vehicle to auto repair center without getting into accident. Auto repair facility examined vehicle and showed me that engine cradle - subframe had rusted thought and broke. …”

NHTSA complaint #11130856, filed 2018-09, 169,000 miles

“The check brake light came on. I found that there was very little break fluid. I took the vehicle to my mechanic and he determined that there was a hole in the break line created when it rubbed up against the engine. He said it was a design flaw and recommended that we take the car to the Mazda dealership. The service manager was very understanding but could not make any judgment. He consulted with Mazda corporate. Corporate ruled that since it was not under warranty they were not responsible for replacement of the part. …”

NHTSA complaint #10562241, filed 2014-01, 43,400 miles

“My brakes on my 2009 Mazda 6s have failed 3 times, resulting in the master cylinder being replaced 2x, and the ABS unit 1x. When I would bring my car to a stop, it would start to roll again. This made me very concerned about causing an accident.”

NHTSA complaint #10297224, filed 2009-12, 7,000 miles

“Faulty e-brake. E-brake button has corroded away and will no longer hold the car in park (car is a manual, so this is particularly concerning since this is the only way to offically keep the car in park when turned off). Car was parked in a stationary position, on a slightly slanted road. Came back and car had slightly backed up into car behind it because parking break had 'let go'. Luckily slant was small enough to not cause damage to the car behind mine, and only left a minor dent in my rear bumper. …”

NHTSA complaint #11043734, filed 2017-11, 78,000 miles

“When AC or heat was on at any speed, it would run for a few mins. Then stop blowing out air before slowly dying out. It would make noise like it was trying to work again, but then wouldn't. Took it to Mazda dealership. They did test on AC/HVAC system & found faulty control head due to electrical failure. They installed a heater control & the problem was fixed for a while. 3 months later same thing happened again. This time I was told the HVAC blower motor was tripping out on internal thermal overload so they replaced the HVAC blower motor. …”
