Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“I was driving around 50 miles an hour, heard a small pop sound then my sunroof exploded. Glass rained down on me causing me to swerve and almost wreck. I was on the highway at the time with no vehicle in front of me.”

NHTSA complaint #11218626, filed 2019-06, 18,000 miles

“About 2 months ago, the display window showing audio selections, rearview camera, navigation, etc. Began rapidly jumping back and forth from screen to screen. Nothing I did, affected it, thus I wasn't able to change channels or get full view when backing up. When in reverse, 2 lines of text were displayed, blocking the camera view. One said, display settings , but when I pressed it, nothing happened. Upon starting the car, the time varies as to when the irregularities begin. Sometimes it starts immediately, but other times it may appear normal for a few minutes and then start. …”

NHTSA complaint #11387111, filed 2021-01, 52,000 miles

“Sunroof exploded. Driving on the highway and the sunroof suddenly shattered and glass showered the interior of the vehicle. This was not caused by impact with an object. There were no overpasses, nearby trees, open trucks, or other likely sources of debris. The road and weather conditions were excellent (sunny, high 70s). This defect presented a significant safety issue.”

NHTSA complaint #11197121, filed 2019-04, 8,000 miles

“During the heat in summer 2023 a clip placed in the sunroof melted and resulted in the sun roof not opening any longer. According to the Nissan dealership they have seen several of these and this should be a recall. A consumer has no ability to rectify this nor keep it from happening.”

NHTSA complaint #11578742, filed 2024-03

“Silver border around side air vents reflects strongly in the side window and obscures the view in the sideview mirrors. This is a safety issue as it could obscure the view of a bicycle or motorcycle and a black vent border should be provided to resolve this issue.”
