Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“My car swerves too much on the freeway. Since purchasing the car in 2009, I have been having issues with the car. Even after taking it to several dealerships, I am still scared I am going to die due to the car. The several dealerships I am taken the car to have claimed there is no problem even though thousands of other people have experienced it too.”

NHTSA complaint #10356313, filed 2010-09, 9,500 miles

“Was towed in and the lf ball joint is rusted and fell apart. The stud and nut are still attached to the knuckle and the ball pulled out of the socket. This allowed the suspension of drop that corner of the car down and pull the cv axle out of the transmission. Just pulling out from home.”

NHTSA complaint #11162005, filed 2018-12, 76,535 miles

“Brakes make loud squealing and grinding noise starting as little as 8 to 10 thousand miles even when pads and rotors are fine. The steering column pops and jolts slightly when turning starting at 27 thousand miles. The car makes a clunking noise when taking moderate to hard right or left turns at any speed. One tire sensor has already gone bad at 20 thousand miles.”

NHTSA complaint #10597829, filed 2014-06, 12,000 miles

“My brake line broke in three pieces while I was driving on the highway visiting my son I almost lost my life the brakes did not work all of the fluid came out thank God I didn’t die there was no sign on the dashboard also my brakes even when I change the pads the rotors and calipers they always make noise. I change brake pads every year and that’s not right I don’t think so. I always buy the best quality even when purchased fluids always buy CVT oil and I get it from the Nissan dealership.”

NHTSA complaint #11517083, filed 2023-04
