“I noticed a sound coming from my backend. When I got home I opened my tailgate I found that my driver side leaf spring shackle had failed and the leaf spring had punctured my bed. I took it to the dealer only to find out the $2000 warranty through wheelz I purchased did not cover it. It seems to be a common thing yet Nissan isn't doing anything about it.”

NHTSA complaint #10567888, filed 2014-03, 68,000 miles

“Was doing normal road driving when I heard a loud bang. Did a quick visual inspection when I had a chance to stop but did not notice anything as I was driving at night. The next day I looked once again and noticed a hump in the bed of my truck and the seems of the bed had been separated. I looked underneath the vehicle and saw that the leaf spring shackle had busted and went through the bed of the truck.”

NHTSA complaint #10374693, filed 2011-01, 32,890 miles

“I didn't hauled any heavy load in my Nissan Titan 2006 at the time it happened to the broken leaf spring shackle. As I driving I felt the truck have an odd moving motion on the road. I parked the truck and the truck bed seems like its lop-sided when you look straight to the truck bed. I look underneath the truck bed and saw the rear driver side leaf spring shackle broken apart and punctured a large seam to the top of the truck bed.”

NHTSA complaint #10459758, filed 2012-05, 61,000 miles

“The weld on the left rear shackle that holds the leaf spring in place rusted through and the leaf spring pushed up through the bottom of the truck bed causing a hole. In my opinion based on my inspection the weld failed due to rust. I purchased the vehicle brand new in 2006 and had corrosion protection applied. This type of wear and tear should not happen to a vehicle like this. I have taken photos to document the damage. I am going to take the vehicle to Nissan to review the issue.”

NHTSA complaint #10763271, filed 2015-09, 119,000 miles

“Right rear spring shackle broke at the welds while driving allowing the leaf spring to be thrust up against the under side of the bed. By luck or other I was to be towing our travel trailer later in the day for the holiday weekend.a cursory search found a high number of complaints of broken shackles in model year 04-07. Shackles appear to have been upgraded in model year 08. This failure could have easily caused a serious accident to self or others had the axle shifted resulting in loss of control.”
