“Strut towers are corroded to the point you can see through the top off the strut tower halfway around the top. There is numerous complaints of this and if I had not been informed of this it would have lead to a failure of the strut support. I am concerned that this has not been addressed previously. I called the manufacture and they are aware of the problem although they are not willing to repair it at their costs. Please just do a search of the internet. You will find this is a issue that requires immediate attention in order to save lives or injuries.”
NHTSA complaint #10352610, filed 2010-08, 126,000 miles“On my 1997 Plymouth mini van a crack has occured on the left front strut tower. This is the only place on the van that has rusted. I have had the van in for service serveral times for front end alignments and the last time for a safety inspection. It took my husband pointing thisout to the dealership before they noticed it. They imediately said it was a safety concern! But do not want to cover the repair. Upon further investigation we found that my brothers 1998 minivan has the exact same defect. I cant believe that we are the only two? …”
NHTSA complaint #10067675, filed 2004-04, 90,000 miles“Took vehicle to garage twice for noises in from end. Mechanic found rusting at front drivers strut tower and cracked metal from at least one of the bolts to the center of the tower. Mechanic said he had seen this before. Also said he has had a number of caravans with noisy front ends that he has not found the cause of noise, and has had chrysler dealer ask him if he found a solution to the noise front end problem. Found others on the web with same problem. Canada has some sort of agreement with daimeler to inspect. Seems to me this is a potential safety issue that is hidden to most owners.”
NHTSA complaint #10116900, filed 2005-04, 85,000 miles“The contact stated the vehicle would not transition to a higher gear and would not reach a speed of more than 5mph. The vehicle was towed to a service dealer who replaced the transmission. The day the transmission was repaired the vehicle began to make a clicking sound and was taken to a local mechanic who determined the axel needed to be replaced. Last week, while driving 35pmh on an exit ramp, a loud popping noise was heard. After stopping at a stop sign, the vehicle failed to move forward while the accelerator pedal was depressed. …”
NHTSA complaint #10159611, filed 2006-06, 124,000 miles“While driving at approx. 65 MPH, a vibration was noted from under the vehicle. Shortly thereafter, when attempting to stop the vehicle, the brake pedal went to the floor, and the brakes failed to stop the vehicle. Driver pulled into the median on us 15, and the grass and mud slowed the wehicle to a stop. Dealer was unable to replicate the problem, and denied any history of similar problems.”
