Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“I was heading north on scenic highway, north of creighton in pensacola fl doing 50 in a 45 MPH zone. Suddenly I heard a very loud bang and the right front tire had a blowout. I managed to stop, change the tire and return it to sears. The writeup man said the right side of the goodyear weatherhandler ls tire probably got an air bubble between the inside and outside of the sidewall and that caused the tire to blow outward, from its sidewall. I got credit for the 3 remaining tires and bought 4 michelins.”

NHTSA complaint #10347070, filed 2010-08, 103,479 miles

“While vehicle was parked consumer noticed bubbles on the front driver's side tire. Dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem. Bridgestone, weatherforce, p215/65r15.”

NHTSA complaint #10115638, filed 2005-03, 95,000 miles

“While vehicle was being driven air bags deployed without a collision occurring, cause unknown. Also, in rainy weather conditions water enters vehicle from dash area, causing electrical shortage. The windshield wiper had no gasket along botton. Tire tread separated while traveling. Four sets of brake pads and two sets of rotors faile in two years period.”

NHTSA complaint #874637, filed 2000-11

“Dealer found tread separation beginning and metal showing inside of the goodyear tires p205/75r14, dealer stated the tread separation was caused by the dual steelbelts slipping.”

NHTSA complaint #877321, filed 2001-01

“Shimmy at low speed. Dealer dignosed tread / belt separation. Michelin dealer replaced tires with symmetry tires explaining old series no longer available, but symmetry was same tire with same tread pattern. Dealer admitted that they've been having trouble with the xw4 tires, but refused to provide any information. I was sold new tires at reduced cost, but paperwork doesn't list tread separation as the reason. Co-worker had same problem with michelin tires on pickup truck. Is michelin having firestone problems? (DOT number: hdt2 472x tiresize: p215/65r15)”
