“Dear NHTSA; I own a 2009 Pontiac G6 that within the last week incurred a power steering failure. Recall research shows that on march 2014 the NHTSA required GM to issue a recall for this exact problem, however, it only covered the G6 models up to the year 2009, which my car was not included. The service advisor at the dealership acknowledged that the problem was very similar to the steering problem for earlier models that are subject to the recall. …”
NHTSA complaint #11076207, filed 2018-03, 196,000 miles“I was driving behind a vehicle who stopped suddenly and when I braked, a power steering message came across the radio and I was unable to turn my vehicle left or right. The car makes a clicking sound when the power steering locks up. It can lock up in the middle of driving or when starting my car.”
NHTSA complaint #10576174, filed 2014-04, 117 miles“Takata recall I have been haing issues with the drivers side low beam going out, had it changed several times and service place said it will continue to go out as the wires are melted and burnt and would need to be a rewired. I also having issues while driving the dash lights all go out and then come back on, feels like it loses the power steering and then goes back to normal but happens several times through out the day while driving. Dash lights, radio everything goes off, the exterior lights stay on but not inside.”
NHTSA complaint #11114027, filed 2018-07, 107,900 miles“I have had a recurring problem for the past 3 years, where the power steering, traction control and electronic stability control all atop working at the same time. I have sought assistance from GM. The dealership tells me the car isn't storing a code. I have provided them with pictures, but they choose not to help. The problem is a known problem on other years of the Pontiac G6. Gm website says they fix the problem on a case by case basis. Picture and video proof mean nothing if the car isn't storing a code. …”
NHTSA complaint #10959663, filed 2017-03, 95,000 miles“A friend following me 09-21-2016 noticed my brake lights were on constantly. Driving home that night I could tell the brake light stayed on, unless I was applying the brake and they would go off. Also cruise control would not work. Made an appointment with the local GM dealership where the car was purchased new for 09-27-2016. Dealership diagnosed car with a bad brake switch. Car was repaired and picked up on 09-30-2016 (brake switch replaced) cost 194.81. Drove the car on a 300 mile trip on 10-13-2016. …”
