Example complaints
Electrical system: “All Safety features stopped working while driving multiple times and loading feature pops up on the display screen. Speakers will go mute randomly, no sound will emit including phone calls. Automatic stop feature has engaged on the interstate multiple times, locking breaks (This is extremely dangerous) and lane assist does not recognize the difference between a lane or tar strips road patches. Will Automatically move the car into the next lane, even when a vehicle is in the lane. I have reported the issues to the dealership I bought my vehicle from. Also have cam footage of electrical issues.”
NHTSA complaint #11733299, filed 2026-04Forward collision avoidance: “To start, I had to replace the engine in my 2024 Legacy that I purchased brand new in June 2024. Subaru of America handled the situation incredibly poorly, I was unable to use any warranty and I was out over 6,000 dollars. Second, my passenger airbag light has been on since September 2024. I was told to replace the sensor the whole seat rail would need replaced and would be over 1000 dollars. Apparently not covered under warranty either. Lastly, god forbid you have to drive West when the sun is going down. …”
NHTSA complaint #11751237, filed 2026-07Other or unknown: “Last week, my 2024 Subaru Legacy caught on fire and was totaled. By the times the firemen got there, the cause was deemed UNDETERMINED. The car was taken by State Farm Auto Insurance to an IAA Salvage Yard. This was a brand new car and still under warranty (only 35,000 miles on it). I drove my car to the store 30-45 minutes prior to the fire. I was inside watching TV when my dog started barking. I looked out my door and my car was on fire. I called 911 and they dispatched the fire department. My daughter and I could have been in the car. Luckily no one was hurt. …”
NHTSA complaint #11639691, filed 2025-01Visibility (wipers, defrost, mirrors): “The windshield is extremely fragile, I have under 3,000 miles and already 4 rock chips on the windshield. This is all from highways and paved roads, no gravel or dirt roads have been driven on. The rock chips have happened on different occasions and never was their a loud bang from a large rock which makes me think small rocks are causing the damage. Rock chips lead to cracks that will impair visibility without costly repairs”
