“I bought this Camry and then my insurance notified me there was an open safety recall. When I saw there was a risk of fire, I took it straight to the Toyota dealership where it is now sitting with no remedy for the recall available. This recall started in December 2025 and it is now July 2026. I can’t even drive the new car I bought and am in a loaner from Toyota.”
NHTSA complaint #11750782, filed 2026-07“The remedy to fix the current recall is taking absurdly long. I have driven a car previously in which there was a sudden loss of power and the risk to myself and other drivers is very dangerous. I just purchased this car in Nov. and the recall was soon after. I am very disappointed in this lack of urgency in finding a remedy. I purchased this car for my teen daughter to drive - what a mark on the safety of Toyotas name. …”
NHTSA complaint #11724907, filed 2026-03“As I was driving in stop and go traffic last night, my panoramic sunroof spontaneously exploded. Nothing fell on it, so when I say it spontaneously exploded, that's an accurate statement. It literally sounded like a gunshot. The cover was closed, so I was fortunate that no glass fell onto us (there were 4 adults in the vehicle at the time). I have only had this vehicle for 4 months. I dropped it off at Toyota of Temecula, CA this morning and I'm waiting to hear next steps.”
NHTSA complaint #11762251, filed 2026-09“Toyota is putting people who purchased their new vehicles at risk. They have my car sitting here with an extraordinarily dangerous recall which they promised to fix by march but they haven't & it is already nearly June. It literally says the car can blow up. The recall says there's a belt problem & it can blow up at certain speeds & it can be fatal. That is crazy. if they cant fix it then they should recall the entire car & give us our money back so we can buy something safe. This is insane already”
NHTSA complaint #11739713, filed 2026-05“The vehicle is producing an extremely loud squealing/whining noise while driving and turning. The sound occurs at both low and high speeds. It is not subtle — it is loud enough to be heard across a large parking lot. For example, if the vehicle is at the back of a parking lot, someone standing at the front can clearly hear it. It can also be heard as I enter my neighborhood, before I am even close to my home, and my neighbors have noticed it as well. The sound resembles something rubbing or grinding against something else. …”
