“The lock cylinders on both front doors have malfunctioned. The passenger side (which I rarely use) will no longer unlock; the driver side will no longer lock. I have never used the outside lock to lock the door so didn't even know the problem until the mechanic told me. $450 to fix both locks but I need to be able to get in the car.”
NHTSA complaint #10268789, filed 2009-05, 50,000 miles“On december 5, 2009, I could not get out of my vehicle through the front doors because I couldn't unlock the front doors locks (manually or electronically). I had to crawl and get out of the car through the rear door. Good thing this is a 4 door vehicle. My concern is that this could have been serious if the whole system shut down. This defect causes the doors to be inoperable. Now I am afraid to drive the vehicle feeling that I could one day be trapped and have to break a window to get out.”
NHTSA complaint #10294616, filed 2009-12, 93,000 miles“The contact owns a 2004 Toyota Corolla. The contact stated that the lock assembly failed on the passenger side door; he would be unable to either get in or out of the vehicle. The contact called the dealer and was told that they would repair it at his expense. The vehicle had not been repaired at the time of the complaint. The current and failure mileages were 63,911.”
NHTSA complaint #10328289, filed 2010-04, 63,911 miles“The contact owns a 2004 Toyota Corolla. The contact stated that the driver side door failed to unlock. The contact mentioned that the door would not unlock using the key, the key fob, or manually. As a result, the contact had to enter the vehicle through the passenger door. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The VIN and failure mileage were unavailable.”
