“Head restraint (head rest). Pushes head forward. Causes neck/back discomfort. Head striking head restraint on rough road feels like a concussion! Long drives are miserable. Seat adjustments fail to overcome the issue. 5'3 woman. I had a prius 2006 and it was just fine. This prius seat is so uncomfortable I might sell it.”

NHTSA complaint #11140067, filed 2018-10, 1,000 miles

“Toyota safety connect communication module has ceased functioning. Vehicle telematics inoperative. Sos button inoperative. Collision notification inoperative. Dealer unable to diagnose.”

NHTSA complaint #10983806, filed 2017-05, 4,800 miles

“I have a 2017 Toyota Prius Prime advanced. It has the large infotaiment screen that is where I have to access many items. Often, seemingly randomly, the screen shuts down and reboots itself. During the time it is rebooting I do not have any access to the controls. It gives no warning when it is going to reboot. I have seen other Toyota recalls for a similar problem on the RAV4 vehicles and I wonder if it is related.”

NHTSA complaint #11705045, filed 2025-12

“I was driving in behind several cars on a city street about 30 mph. The cars ahead slowed quickly. The automatic braking system came on suddenly and completely and applied the brakes on its own with no warning red flash. It locked the brakes and the wheels skidded on the pavement I had no control over this at all I tried tapping lightly to stop the skid. I was about 10-12 feet away from the vehicle ahead of me when the car stopped. …”

NHTSA complaint #11442630, filed 2021-12

“The air conditioner emits a foul smell when starting and while driving. Have many new cars and never had this chronic problem. Took the car to the dealer and was told that this was a recurring problems with Toyota. Traded in 2015 prius with 36000 miles for the Prius Prime and never had a air conditioning problem with that prius”
