“Car had been using excessive oil.while I was driving on interstate, cruise control failed ,warning lights came on , started flashing and then car quickly lost all power. Barely got off the highway onto the right side of interstate. Very dangerous condition exists with these vehicles. I consider myself lucky.”

NHTSA complaint #10958347, filed 2017-03, 126,000 miles

“Unexplained/unexpected acceleration: while stopped at a traffic light, the engine suddenly raced. If my foot had not already been on the brake, the car would have surged forward. I keep my foot on the brake, put the car in neutral and then turned the engine off. When I restarted the vehicle, the acceleration had stopped. This has only happened once.”

NHTSA complaint #10381590, filed 2011-02, 28,240 miles

“I was turning my 2007 Toyota RAV4 south onto interstate 182 to head east, the car sudden out of my control and went off the road and hit a concrete barrier at 5:49 pm at 5/8/17. Two passengers were hurt.”

NHTSA complaint #10984880, filed 2017-05, 70,000 miles

“Was stopped in driveway of my home waiting for garage door to open (remote controlled.) then I slowly proceeded towards open garage. The car engine suddenly roared and surged forward on its own. I put all my weight unto the brake which seemed to have little effect then shifted into neutral. Only then did the car seem to normalize. I shut it off and haven't tried to drive it since.”

NHTSA complaint #10314980, filed 2010-02, 40,900 miles

“My 2007 Toyota RAV4 4cyl 4 x 4 hesitates for several seconds when I depress the gas pedal. This has been going on since I bought the vehicle new in 2007, but has recently begun to get worse. Today as I attempted to pull into traffic with my wife and two small children in the vehicle, it hesitated and nearly got us into an accident.”

NHTSA complaint #10280296, filed 2009-08, 21,500 miles
