“In my vehicle, the drivers side sun visor has loosened so that it will not stay up out of the way next to the roof of the car. It drifts down into my line of sight and hinders my vision. When I pull it down to use, it also will not stay up against the windshield. So it's nearly always in my way. And it can't be adjusted by me. It has to be repaired at the dealership. For a large cost.”
NHTSA complaint #10492907, filed 2013-01, 62,000 miles“I purchased a new 2007 RAV4 from Toyota of braintree in 2007. 1. In 2009 I could hear wind in the driver's window; I took the vehicle to be checked, Toyota service department said I was hearing things. 2.the driver's door caught fire (I had the keys with me) I had to spend $606.01 to fix it, Toyota said there was water intrusion (I thought, it probably was, because of the air leak previously reported in 2009) 3. …”
NHTSA complaint #10447947, filed 2012-02, 18,462 miles“The drivers side visor began flopping forward and will not stay in the upright position. Sometimes it just drops down without being touched and of course it interferes with visibility. I have read that there is a known problem with this issue. It was mentioned at one of my service visits at the Toyota dealership but I do not feel that I should have to pay $150.00 dollars to fix it. Since reading more complaints about this issue it seems it is a design flaw. It will drop down when I hit the brakes or sometimes by itself.”
NHTSA complaint #11035204, filed 2017-10, 110,000 miles“The visor on the drivers side does not stay up and comes down during driving and creates a safety hazard where it blocks our view when driving. There are several complaints on the internet of this issue with several Toyota models (RAV4, highlander etc.), yet Toyota has 'not' issued a recall on this serious defect and safety issue! I have already had to take my Toyota in for 4-5 recalls on other issues since I bought the car in 2007! Toyota needs to address this visor issue immediately!”
NHTSA complaint #10644342, filed 2014-10, 80,000 miles“Just like many other owners of 2007 RAV4 I began experiencing a distinctive klunking noise around 35,000 miles. Took it to the dealer and they said it was normal noise when you turn the wheel all the way to the side..... My problem was that it was making cracking noise all the time, when turning or especially parking the car.... Also a problem with my driver visor flap not staying in upward position it was hanging down halfway and faces forward. I had to pay 75 dollars to replace it, warranty would not cover it. …”
