“The accelerator stuck on this van as I was passing another vehicle on a rural, two lane road. As soon as I depressed the accelerator to pass, I knew something was wrong. The gas pedal stayed down even after I removed my foot and the van continued to accelerate even faster even though I was now hitting the brakes hard! With curves in the road approaching in about a mile, I had to do something fast! I was standing on the brakes with both feet now and the van continued to speed up. I was able to shift it into neutral, all the while continuing to stand on the brakes. …”

“On dec. 3, 2007 at 10 am I left my morning exercise class and drove into the parking lot at the bank. I was pulling into a parking space, with my right foot lightly on the brake pedal, the mini van suddenly accelerated at a high speed. It went over a curb and was stopped by a tree. It happened very suddenly, with no warning. The mini van is currently at an auto repair center. The damage is estimated at over $4000. I am afraid to ever drive that van again. After the repairs are completed it will be taken to the Toyota dealer to be checked out by engineering.”

“My husband and I purchased a 2004 Toyota Sienna in feb. 2004. We traded it on 6/24/2005 for a 2005 Toyota Sienna. The reason was we did not need an 8-pass. And captain chairs in 2nd row and I hated the color. So we got a 2005 blue mirage le 7-passenger on 6/24/05. But, yes we have a problem my 04 got 19.6 mi. Per gal. This one is only getting 14.3 mpg. I still drive to same places and I pushed the 04 to its limits unlike the 05 that I drove like it is a baby. I brought my car to the dealership on 7/25/2005 to have them find out what the problem was. …”

NHTSA complaint #10132184, filed 2005-08, 1,075 miles

“Driver side passenger door will not open past about 4 inches due to locking mechanism at bottom that engages when fuel door is open stuck in the up position. Fuel door is closed but the locking mechanism that prevents the door from opening when the fuel door is open remains up.”

NHTSA complaint #10243830, filed 2008-09, 67,035 miles

“There is a fault in the gas sensor which goes from the pedal to the engine. The car fails to accelerate when the pedal is depressed, then suddenly leaps forward, throwing the occupants back against the seats. It is dangerous to try to enter a highway, pass a slower vehicle, or retain speed when going uphill.”
