“The front seat belts gets tangled. It takes a lot of time and effort to get it untangled. Most recently I was unable to get it untangled so I had to take it to my garage to get it untangled. Very serious safety problem if it get tangled while I am out running errands and cannot get it untangled so I can drive home. Hazardous and should be recalled!”
NHTSA complaint #11362031, filed 2020-09, 147,000 miles“On numerous occasions, the front passenger safety belt has gotten bound up and stuck in the guide on the a pillar. This has happened while putting on the belt, as well as while the vehicle is in motion. I'm concerned that if this happens during a collision the front passenger will not be properly restrained and could be injured. I have been able to free the belt with tools before, but am no longer able to do so.”
NHTSA complaint #11340255, filed 2020-07, 70,000 miles“All the seat belts repeatedly get twisted inside the retractor guide on the door posts. This makes it impossible for the seat belt to retract or pull out for use. We've taken it back to Toyota and were told it is our responsibility to get this fixed. However this seems to be a problem in many toyotas. This is definitely a safety issue that Toyota needs to and should address.”
NHTSA complaint #10546006, filed 2013-09, 60,000 miles“2005 Toyota Sienna was rear-ended on 6/10/10. Passenger seat belt did not restrain the passenger. Passenger's body was thrown very near the dash. Resulted in damage to sternum and neck. We are requesting Toyota replace the passenger belt. We are encountering resistance from Toyota to repair this safety defect. Driver's seat belt did restrain driver.”
NHTSA complaint #10341344, filed 2010-07, 107,000 miles“My front passenger seat belt repeatedly jams due to the seat belt folding over on itself. I have researched this issue and have noticed that many Toyota Sienna owners are complaining of the same thing. When I asked my dealership about this issue, they said there were no recalls on this item, therefore, they would charge me $400 to fix it. At this point, it's jamming every week and the seat belt is unusable at this point.”
