“Rear power hatch, when opened either with remote, by hand or cabin switch, it slowly goes to it's full open position, then violently closes on you. The first time it happened it hit me on the head, made me dizzy for a minute. The second time it caught my wife on her thigh, she was pinned against the bumper causing some discolouration on her legs.”
NHTSA complaint #10296154, filed 2009-12, 37,000 miles“Our passenger-side sliding rear door has frozen in place and will not open. It is a 2005 Toyota Sienna c model. We have had other issues as well, such as the rear hatchback supports failed within 3 years, our drivers-side front door makes a popping sound when opened, we have replaced the front brakes three times within 65,000 miles, and seat belts that constantly stick.”
NHTSA complaint #10273272, filed 2009-06, 65,793 miles“General ware lead to the drivers side automatic sliding door on my 2005 Toyota Sienna is failing to open or close without assistance. NHTSA complaint #10300304, filed 2010-01, 53,000 miles“I own a 2005 Toyota Sienna xle. The plastic on the sliding door cable chipped away causing the cable to become exposed. It corroded and snapped, which made the door to stay wide open without being able to close it back manually. I found out that simillar incident happened to lots of owners putting us and our children's lives at risk. Toyota is not taking responsibility but only documenting the complaints.”
NHTSA complaint #10288790, filed 2009-10, 49,537 miles“I own a 2005 Toyota Sienna and my passenger side sliding door will not open electronically or manually. This is a safety issue as I carpool and have to let the children out on the street side. If there is a fire the door is not operable. I brought it to the dealership and they said that they do not know what the problem is, so they want to start changing parts until the problem is solved. This is an on going problem with the siennas.”
